We often forget that Nepal was not only hit by one mega earthquake but by many. May 12 is the anniversary of the biggest aftershock (7.2) following the April 25, 2015 catastrophic earthquake, where 9000 people lost their lives. Nearly worse than shaking earth, on that day many people lost all hope in the possibility to recover a normal life.
One year after, one hundred thousand victims still live in the same precarious conditions - in tents or makeshift shelters, cooking on wood fire with limited access to water, often no electricity, exposed to the bad weather conditions such as heavy rains, extreme heat, etc. Considering this dark picture of continuous suffering, many organizations as well as private individuals work hard to come to the rescue. Some of these initiatives are remarkable.
One of them is Rangjung Yeshe Shenpen’s reconstruction project. Being a local organization related to a Buddhist monastery in Boudhanath, Shenpen supports a displaced Tamang community in the reconstruction of homes and sponsor the construction of 55 of them.
Everyone wanted the houses to be completed before the upcoming rainy season, however, unfortunately, it might be difficult. Nevertheless, everyone works hard in order to complete as much as possible before monsoon hits Nepal. Villagers are working on the construction of the houses seven days a week and Shenpen concentrates all its effort to fundraise money in order to keep the construction going and to complete them as soon as possible.
Viele vergessen, dass Nepal nicht nur von einem Megaerdbeben getroffen wurde, sondern von vielen. Am 12. Mai ist der Jahrestag des groessten Nachschocks (7.2), nach dem katastrophischen Erdbeben von April 25, 2015, wo 9000 Menschen verstorben sind. Fast schlimmer als die bebende Erde war jedoch, dass mit diesem zweiten Megabeben die Menschen jegliche Hoffnung verloren, jemals wieder ein normales Leben zu haben.
Ein Jahr spaeter, 100,000 Opfer leben noch immer unter schrecklichen Bedingungen – in Zelten oder temporären Unterschlüpfen, mit Holzfeuer, kaum Wasser, meist ohne Strom, und schlechten Wetterbedingungen wie starkem Regen und extremer Hitze voellig ausgeliefert. Wegen diesem dunklen Bilds von bestaendigem leidn, arbeiten viele Organisationen wie auch private Einzelpersonen schwer um diesen Menschen zu helfen. Einige dieser Initiativen sind wahrhaft bemerkenswert.
