One elderly man who received aid there lives with his wife, but his children do not care for them. His relatives said they will come to help him build the shelter soon with the supplies given by Shenpen.
Another family has two daughters and four sons—only the mother remains,
since the father died when the house collapsed. All the children are
young, so it is very difficult for the family. The Shenpen crew built a
shelter for them, since otherwise they would have been unable to do it
on their own.
One single man who received aid has a younger brother whose wife died. After he remarried he abandoned his three children from his previous wife and left his elder brother to care for them. Since they do not have their own place to stay they asked their neighbors for help. So they worked on their neighbor’s field and planted crops on the condition that they give half of the yield to the owner of the field.
A 93 year old woman has only one son, but the son does not look after the mother. Her house collapsed because of the earthquakes, though fortunately neighbors came to help repair the home. However, her home still lacked a roof and so the crew came to supply the roof materials that she sorely needed. At one point, the old woman told one of the monks, Achung, that she didn’t even have any money to buy food, so Achung gave 500 NRS of his own money to her. Achung also told her that they will come back soon to provide her with food, blankets, and a mattress.
On the way back, the crew got stuck coming back up from one of the roads. One of the trucks was two wheel drive only and so it needed to be pulled up with the other jeep that has four-wheel drive. It took two hours for them to get through that road, which normally would have taken half that time.
In total 9 tin sheets were given to each of the 7 families.
